 I just started learning Chinese with Rosetta Stone, but the software doesn't actually define what all words mean. Here's the sentence: Zhe ge nu hai zi zai chi fan. From what I understand, it means "This girl has a meal." So, what is the meaning of "zài"? Also, does anyone have tips on learning to write the characters? Do I just keep practicing over and over until I get them or are there better techniques? ...

 When you say one girl in pinyin, yi ge nu hai zi, what is the purpose of adding the "zi" I understand ge is a measure word but "hai" translated alone means child doesnt it or does it have to be said as one word, haizi. I read that it is a noun modifier, but I don't see its purpose if yi ge is included. Also is zi included in other phrases as well? For example I noticed it is not written for man yi ge nan ren.
